Diagrams Align Your Practice: Liforme Rainbow Yoga Mat Is Like an On-Call Instructor
Going with the flow is an essential part of any yoga class. But being able to move quickly through poses is less important than making sure to have proper alignment in each pose. Without that, you may not get the benefits of the poses — and, worst-case scenario, you may even risk developing overuse injuries over time. Unless you do...
An Ode to the Relationships We Owe to the Outdoors
The outdoors have a way of delivering to us our soulmates. Sometimes, that’s a romantic partner, discovered on a mountain-summit meet-cute. Other times, it’s the fiercely loyal friends we never knew we needed. Maybe you’ve noticed the same—that your best friends are your adventure friends. There’s a reason for that dynamic. The outdoors draws out the best and the worst...
Custom, Capable, and Basically Bottomless: San Util Design Expandable Off Piste Ski Touring Pack Review
All season, Ive been experimenting with how much I can fit in my San Util Design Off Piste Ski Touring Pack. I havent found a realistic limit yet. Ive stuffed puffies, fleece midlayers, extra goggles, sunglasses cases, bottles of water, cans of beer, baseball hats, knit caps, balaclavas, salami, cheese, other snacks, an insulated blanket, and, of course, my beacon,...
How to Experience a Real Winter Wonderland in Mammoth Lakes
Picture this: towering pine trees dusted with snow, poconip (frozen fog) rolling in over alpine lakes, and mountain peaks glistening in the winter sun. If you think this scene is from a distant landscape or straight out of a Hallmark movie, think again. Mammoth Lakes is a real-life winter wonderland tucked on the eastern slope of California’s Sierra Nevada range....
New Rules on Everest: Officials May Ban Unsupported Attempts and Require Guides
The original version of this story appeared on ExplorersWeb. The cost of Everest climbing permits will rise 36% beginning this fall, the Nepalese government announced this week. However, that news surprised few of the mountains many guiding companies. More significant is a new regulation that could ban independent climbers from all of the country’s peaks over 8,000 m. This new...
Waterproof for Wet Dogs: Shodu Car Seat Cover for the Back Seat and Door Panels
When a grumbling thunderstorm surprised my dog and me on an autumn hike, the Shodu Waterproof Dog Car Seat Cover rose to the occasion. The storm produced so much hail and rain that the trail looked like a small creek. Water and mud dripped off my dog. Thankfully, it all beaded up on the seat covers face fabric. Puddles sat...

Technical Peacoat, ‘Crush-Proof’ Speaker, $600 Flashlight, and More Emerging Gear
Judging by the historic winter storm currently battering the southern U.S. —its pretty clear weve still got plenty of snow and ice ahead of us. But that aint no thang for us GearJunkies. Trump Just Renamed North America’s Highest Peak. These Climbers Will Still Call It “Denali.”
On Monday, January 20, 2025, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to rename Alaska’s 20,310-foot Denali, the highest peak in North America. The mountain’s name will revert to Mount McKinley, named for William McKinley, the 25th President of the United States, who was assassinated on September 14, 1901. The decree undoes the work of former President Barack Obama, who,...
People-Friendly Bad Boy Blade: Kizer ‘Nice Guy’ Review
Over the past 5 or so years, there has been a strong reaction to the overly aggressive “tactical” folders that saw popularity in the early aughts. Those massive, slabby, and less socially acceptable knives have since been replaced by, or supplemented with, smaller, slicier, more people-friendly blades. These knives, typified by offerings like the Knafs Lander and the TRM Nerd,...
When Is the Best Time to Eat Breakfast?
Breakfast is a surprisingly controversial meal. Many swear it’s a crucial part of setting yourself up for a successful day, but some decide to skip it. While nearly 85 percent of Americans over 20 years old eat breakfast, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), everyone approaches the first meal of the day differently, including the timing...
