Ultralight, roomy, and super-breathable 2-person tent

The Hilleberg Anaris is a very light and airy two-person ridge tent inspired by the first Hilleberg model, the Keb. Conceived for warm-weather backpackers and trekkers who prefer hiking with trekking poles, its two-vestibule construction is configured so the occupants sleep parallel to the vestibules. This provides impressive room for two people, with plenty of space for both and a dedicated entrance and vestibule for each.

Backpackers who use trekking poles often look for a lightweight way to integrate their poles into their shelter. While many choose a minimal setup, such as a tarp, the Anaris offers an elegantly light solution for those who prefer the comfort of a true Hilleberg tent. As with all Hilleberg models, the Anaris has linked outer and inner tents, allowing simultaneous pitching of both or separate use of either. The outer tent, made with very light yet strong Kerlon 1000, provides both outstanding weather protection, and, thanks to the walls not going all the way to the ground and the curved patterning at their bottoms, full-time air flow. Roll both doors on both vestibules completely away, and the inner tent’s full mesh doors and entrance walls provide superlative venting for very warm conditions.

The Anaris offers more levels of versatility, as well. While built for a trekking pole pitch, it can also be set up by suspending the ridge ends, and either one or both of the outer tent walls can be fully rolled away for maximal breeziness in hot weather. And for those who want the option of a more minimal shelter solution on some trips, the outer tent alone makes a kind of “super tarp”: it offers the full functionality of rolling away walls and vestibule doors yet weighs just 640 g (1 lb 7 oz).

  Poles not included.

A note on colors: Fabric dyes have natural variations, so the actual tent color may look slightly different from what is pictured here.

Estimated to begin shipping in June 2020.

You Can Always Crash on My Couch
I left Breckenridge on July 3 and headed west without a plan. I’d crashed the night before with my friend Sorrel, at the mountainside condo she was renting full-time. I was on a seat-of-my-pants road trip around Colorado without a place to sleep on the eve of one of the biggest camping holidays of the year. At a highway rest...
Is the GoPro Hero13 Black Better Than the GoPro Hero?
I’ve been testing and writing about GoPro’s small action cameras since the first one was launched in 2004, watching as those cameras evolved from cumbersome chunks of plastic worn on your wrist to the content-capturing machines that they are today. The two newest versions from GoPro, the Hero13, and the original Hero, continue that evolution. One is the most versatile...

National Park Visitors Should “Lower Your Expectations” This Summer
By now youve probably heard about the staffing crisis gripping Yellowstone, Yosemite, and the nations other national parks. On February 14, the National Park Serivce (NPS) delivered layoff notices to approximately 1,000 workers, or about five percent of its total workforce. The move generated headlines in national and local publications alike, and over the weekend, dozens of recently fired NPS...
Bass Pro Tour: Bobby Lane Mounts Comeback Victory in His Home State
Bobby Lane has had a successful 17-year professional fishing career, with numerous wins, including a Redcrest Championship. However, a victory in his home state of Florida has eluded him. This weekend, he changed that with a come-from-behind win on the Harris Chain of Lakes. The last time the Bass Pro Tour fished on the Harris Chain, Lane came close to...
2025 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Backcountry Limited Edition: A Sahara With More Trail Style and Tech
The king of special editions is at it again. The latest limited-edition Jeep Wrangler is called the 4xe Backcountry, and it adds some off-road goodies to the Sahara trim. Its a bit of a puzzler, because while it comes with some parts you almost definitely want, it is missing some of the Rubicons best. And, its significantly more expensive than...
The Cold Hard Facts of Freezing to Death
What happens to your body when you get lost and confused on a mountain in the bitter cold of a winter night? In 2016, The Outside Podcast launched with this harrowing story of a lost motorist fighting for his life. Based on Peter Starks classic feature, Frozen Alive, it is still considered a high-water mark for experiential audio storytelling. ...
A Fat, Joyful Toy: Atomic Bent Chetler 120 Ski Review
I’m at a private backcountry ski operation near Ogden, Utah. The snow is so deep that the cat operator can barely make it to the top of our first run. Our guide directs us to a steep, treed, avalanche-controlled slope. I click into the 2025 Atomic Bent Chetler ($1,025), and within moments, I am floating and whooping through the light...
Zero-Drop Trail Runner Gets Durability Upgrade: Altra Lone Peak 9 Review
The snow was slick white on the Rocky Mountain trail in Colorado. It had been packed into a luge-like grade that sloped outward toward some exposed rocky terrain. The February cold pressed in as I hiked in the new Altra Lone Peak 9 shoes. Normally, this time of year, I’d be wearing boots or some sort of traction device, but...
2025 Ioniq 5 Review: Hyundai Heads Off Road With XRT Model
At a time when EV sales have been stagnating, Hyundai somehow keeps building demand. An expanded lineup, with products like the sleek Ioniq 7 and the upcoming three-row Ioniq 9 certainly helps. But, the original Hyundai Ioniq 5 was the primary reason the brand’s U.S. EV sales shot up by 90% in 2024. And the automaker aims to keep that...
