In a lineup of women’s water shoes, finding the right pair to match the outdoor activities has never been easier. In a game-time decision about which shoes to bring on an overnight river trip down the Colorado River, I knew the Astral Brewess 2.0 would be the perfect choice. They’re rugged enough to wear while paddling in my whitewater kayak,...
Texas Thru-Hike: 1,500-Mile ‘xTx’ Trail to Open Spring 2025
Texas is getting its very own long-distance cross-state thru trail thanks to one ambitious outdoorsman with a vision. The Cross Texas Trail (xTx) would extend 1,500 miles from Orange to El Paso, winding along some of the Lone Star States most scenic landscapes, passing towns and many historical sites, gaining roughly 56,000 feet in elevation along the way. The nonprofit...
Women’s Hiking Pants That Do It All: Patagonia Quandary Pants Review
They’re gusseted, with articulated knees for mobility and freedom of movement, and you can roll and secure them with tabs at the calves or knees. A zippered fly, button closure, and waistbelt with belt loops make these look and feel like traditional hiking pants. And a midrise fit ensures they don’t ride down underneath your backpack’s waist straps. Patagonia Quandary...
The Best Compasses of 2024
Even in this technology-filled world, a good outdoors person knows the importance of having the best compass possible when adventuring outside. The GearJunkie team is composed of arctic explorers, competitive orienteers, and accomplished long-distance thru-hikers. Weve ventured far beyond the bounds of well-traveled trails and 5G-LTE. We rely on compasses to maintain our bearings and remain in touch with our...

As the winter holidays commence and we approach the most wonderful time of the year, the outdoor industry is focused on one thing: getting you ready for cold adventures. Legendary Loud Lifestyle Vehicle: 2024 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 Final Edition Review
I picked up my 3-year-old from daycare in the 2024 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 Final Edition, and she summed it up in the first 5 minutes as a passenger. Her series of comments went like this: “This truck is so cool,” “It’s very fast,” and, “It’s so wobbly.” In short: The latest four-door, V8, off-road-focused Jeep Wrangler is a loud,...
Best Value Rooftop Tent We’ve Tested: Topoak Galaxy 1.0 Review
I was skeptical about the Topoak Galaxy 1.0 given that similar aluminum hardshell wedge-style models, like the popular Roofnest Falcon 2, cost over $3,000. Ive seen and used budget rooftop tents (RTTs) that were janky and felt super flimsy. They reminded me of cheap lawn furniture. However, when I received the Topoak Galaxy 1.0, it was immediately obvious that it...
The Best Down Booties of 2024-2025
If you live somewhere cold, insulating your feet in the winter is essential. Sherpa Climbers Score Bevy of Himalayan Records in One Week
Climbing the worlds 14 highest peaks —all located in the Himalayas —has long represented the ultimate objective in alpinism. From K2 to Annapurna, these mountains present some of the toughest mountaineering challenges in the world. And now theyve been climbed by a teenager.
