Lightweight 50/50 Ski Boots: Nordica Unlimited LT 130 DYN Review
A ski boot that tries to be everything for everyone often ends up being good for no one. But buying two pairs of ski boots — one for the ski resort, one for the backcountry — is expensive. So, there’s obviously a financial reason to consider crossover ski boots. Like most hybrid ski boots, the Nordica Unlimited LT 130 DYN...
High Temps, Low Price: Save Up to 50% on Summer Gear at Backcountry
Its about that time of year when everythings on the table: Fall and winter are right around the corner, but summers still in full swing! That said, we scoped out Backcountrys Semi-Annual Sale to find you the best deals on in-season hiking gear, winter apparel, and other outdoor essentials. Heres your chance to save up to 50% off newly discounted...
Better Fit for Better Skiing: Fox River Bootfitter Elite Ski Sock Review
When my ski boots disappeared on my feet, I knew my feet, liners, and shells were working in harmony. My toes weren’t cold, and my feet weren’t slipping and sliding inside the liners. And that’s saying a lot — my feet are exceptionally challenging to match with ski boots. Socks are the foundation of your winter skiing kit, and they’re...
Olympic History: Watch Texas Teen Scorch Speed Climbing World Record
An 18-year-old from Texas just set a new world record for speed climbing at the 2024 Paris Olympics. American athlete Sam Watson just broke his own world record on his way to the quarter-finals of the speed climbing competition, which will conclude on Thursday. It was a stunning response to Indonesia’s Veddriq Leonardo, who had matched Watsons speed record of 4.79 seconds with...
Zippy Commuter E-Bike, Packed With Tech: Orbea Diem 20 Review
There are e-bike cruisers that dabble as commuters and commuters packed with features like fat tires for off-road exploration. There are even full-tilt mountain bikes decked out with lights and racks for maximum versatility. Among this littered field, the Orbea Diem is a much more purpose-driven machine whose components feel custom-tailored for urban commuting rather than skirting the line between...
A High-End Crossover Shell: Rab Khroma Latok Ski Jacket Review
It’s hard to find one ski jacket for all the conditions you’ll encounter riding at ski resorts and in the backcountry. A shell that can hold its own against subzero storms on a resort ridgeline is usually overkill when spring touring in full sun in the 50s. Still, ski apparel brands are game to try, and Rab’s Latok is a...
Ballot Measure to Ban Lion Hunting Divides Colorado
Colorado residents will have a new issue to vote on this November: whether to continue to allow the hunting of mountain lions and bobcats. All hunting of these feline predators would end under a petition filed in Colorado this week by animal rights group Cats Arent Trophies. The group has already collected 188,000 signatures — 60,000 more than necessary to...
Polaris Launches Its Most Powerful and Capable SxS Models Yet: 2025 RZR Pro Lineup
Polaris RZRs have been synonymous in the SxS (side-by-side) landscape as premium, high-performance machines with a race-bred lineage. In fact, Polaris won its first Dakar Rally this year, winning the SSV class with a vehicle based on an RZR Pro R Factory. Events like the Dakar Rally demand so much from any machine. Horsepower, suspension, handling, and durability, among a...
Evolv Zenist Review: The Brand’s Softest Bouldering Shoe Delivers All the Feels
Some bouldering shoes, especially ones aimed at competition or training, have become so soft that they feel like socks with rubber on them. Yes, they are so sensitive, but they also have almost no support and can disintegrate quickly under hard use. I tested the Zenist exactly as its claims demanded. I trained in them on multiple home and gym...
Cold Feet No More: Sierra Designs Down Booties Review
I take my foot warmth pretty seriously, especially after suffering the consequences of frostnip on my toes. Which is why I absolutely love a solid pair of down booties that are not only comfortable, but also sufficiently insulated for indoor and outdoor use. Cue the Down Booties from Sierra Designs, a pair of slide-ons with durable construction and a decent...
Trail of Terror: ‘Monarch’ Podcast Summons Creepy Horror-Hiking Genre
Have you ever been hiking along a trail and had that distinct sensation of being followed? Its the moment when your sixth or seventh sense kicks in, and you pause, holding your breath, listening, and turning to check that no ones around. Theres always a sense of relief when you realize it was just your imagination. You arent being stalked...
Waterproof, Stretchy, Breathable: Black Diamond Recon LT Ski Pants Review
My ski touring partner and I kicked steps into the imposing west face of a classic Gore Range peak. I paused to look up at the first rays of morning sunshine fanning over the ridgeline. The ascent was a mix of waist-deep facets under a breakable crust, front-pointing the face, and scrambling abrasive granite. On climbs like these, ski pants...
