Bury It, Winch It, Drive It Out: 2024 Can-Am Defender Max Limited Review
When it comes to heavy-duty side-by-sides, there is a big difference between machines built for show and those built to work. The 2024 Can-Am Defender Max Limited earns its place in the workhorse category. It works hard, carries heavy loads, tows big trailers, and pushes through terrain that stops lesser machines. Its not flashy, and its certainly not delicate. I...
Meet the Latest Batch of Rick Hinderer Knives
Tell someone a Rick Hinderer creation is your Grail knife, and they are more likely to ask which model rather than why. Hinderer Knives are made in the United States and garner praise from enthusiasts for their durability and handfeel. Hand assembly means focusing on one knife at a time, ensuring each is tuned for the best quality and performance....
21 Vehicle Head-to-Head Test: 2025 NW Outdoor Activity Vehicle of the Year Competition
After 2 days of testing, on-road and off, with 21 brand-new crossovers, SUVs, and trucks, the Northwest Automotive Press Association (NWAPA) has crowned the 2025 NW Outdoor Activity Vehicle of the Year, as well as a number of category winners. The annual event, known as Mudfest, now in its 31st year, offers journalists (NWAPA members) the opportunity for direct comparison...
Easier to Cruise, More Fun to Hustle: 2025 Polaris Slingshot R Review
Most people’s experience with the Polaris Slingshot comes secondhand. You see these attention-grabbing, three-wheeled spaceships on the road from time to time. But it’s rare to meet someone who’s actually driven one, let alone owned a Slingshot themselves. After spending a month behind the wheel, one thing’s for sure: Some people love the Polaris Slingshot, some people absolutely hate it....

The Big SUV You Want to Take Off-Road: 2025 Ford Expedition TREMOR Review
Never once have I said Im itching to go offroading in a Ford Expedition. But, that all changes now. I just drove the first-of-its-kind Expedition TREMOR on a muddy trail deep in the Indiana woods, and it far exceeded all expectations. The 2025 Ford Expedition TREMOR is easily the most off-road-capable Expedition to ever roll out of a Ford factory....
Hitting the Sweet Spot: 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan First Drive Review
The Volkswagen Tiguan is now the brand’s bestselling vehicle not only in the U.S. and Canada, but globally. This proves that times and tastes have changed for the “people’s car” — the literal German translation of Volkswagen. And the people have spoken: 77% of all American VW sales are Tiguans. Clearly, it’s a very important vehicle to the company. So,...
A Sporty Mid-Size Pickup Built for Work and Play: 2025 Ford Ranger 4×4 Lariat Review
Last year, Ford did a complete redesign of the Ranger. It stretched both the wheelbase and track a couple of inches, beefed up the frame, and improved the suspension by setting the rear shocks outboard, all the while retaining its ability to tow up to 7,500 pounds. It also upgraded the interior with new seats, better materials, and improved storage...
Fast, Fun, Fancy Electrified Dual Sport: 2025 Zero DSR/X Motorcycle Review
The idea of electric motorcycles is compelling, but efforts have come up short for me. The range has been horrific, and the bikes seemed not fully baked. After hearing from moto friends and journalists that Zero Motorcycle models fared well, I had high hopes for the DSR/X dual-sport machine. The 2025 Zero Motorcycles DSR/X is an impressive-looking electric dual-sport/adventure motorcycle....
Old West EDC With Modern Flair: Wheat State Cutlery ‘Peacemaker’ Review
As I opened the box, I knew in an instant I was in for a treat. Nestled inside was a gorgeous leather zippered pouch. Lifting it out from the box, I saw a thin plastic bag with what looked to be stickers. Under that, I found a nifty coin embossed with Wheat State Cutlery’s logo. Decorative bells and whistles like...
Exclusive Steel, Snappy Action: Microtech UTX-85 OTF Review
I was 9 years old the first time I saw The Warriors. Admittedly, I was a bit young by today’s standards for that sort of film, but the early 1980s were a very different time. Not only was that movie my first look at (outlandishly Hollywood) inner-city turf wars, it was also the first time I remember seeing a switchblade....
Introducing the 1Up USA Moto Rack: Safe, Secure, and Bike Friendly
Its rare to find a moto rack that accommodates bicycles, and almost unheard of to find a bike rack that accommodates motorbikes. Hauling both can be cumbersome, with bikes mounted on the car and the motorcycle towed on a trailer, meaning that often, people will choose between bringing one or the other on their adventures. Enter the 1Up Moto Rack...
