Fallon Rowe’s New Book Addresses Domestic Abuse in the Outdoor Community
In 2024, news of a prominent climber, Charlie Barrett, getting arrested for rape rocked the climbing community. Many were aghast at how this couldve happened. Annette McGivneys Outside article that chronicled his crimes was even titled How Did This Climber Get Away with So Much For So Long? Long after the beginning of MeToo, climbing was beginning to reckon with...
A Purple People Mover With Godzilla’s Heart: Infiniti QX80 R-Spec Concept
An Infiniti QX80 with the engine from a Nissan GT-R. Thats what Infiniti is bringing to SEMA this year. Its called the Infiniti QX80 R-Spec, and it promises four-digit horsepower and some serious brake and suspension upgrades. All to transform the big luxury beast into something that could be shockingly fast around a racetrack, but more so to show you...
Classic Style, Modern Power, Stick Shift: Toyota ‘Trail Cruiser’ 2025 SEMA Build
The J60 Toyota Land Cruiser has been an icon for more than 40 years. But as tough as the 60 Series has been, even the newest are using engines and transmissions that were designed long enough ago that theyre eligible for early retirement. The Toyota Turbo Trail Cruiser is a SEMA show concept that fixes that particular piece of the...
Three People Convicted of Federal Crimes for BASE Jumping in Yosemite
With its wide valleys and tall structures like El Capitan and Half Dome, Yosemite National Park is a BASE jumpers paradise. Theres one problem, however: Its illegal. Three men were recently convicted in federal court for BASE jumping in Yosemite National Park in 2024 and 2020. The convictions spell trouble for those currently partaking in the wave of illegal BASE...
Lumbar Support for Day Hikes, Dialed for Transpacific Flights: Osprey Fairview 40 Travel Pack Review
It was 6 a.m. when my alarm went off — and rain pounded the gabled copper roof of the 300-year-old Daishinbo Pilgrim Lodge. Sunshine or not, I was in Japan to hike Mount Haguro on Honshu Island. If the downpour persisted, I would certainly find out whether my Osprey Fairview Travel Pack could duck any moisture. The day trek follows...
Limited-Edition Blizzard Ski Unveiled to Celebrate 10 Years of Women2Women
The shrink it and pink it approach to designing womens ski gear really didnt sit well with Leslie Baker-Brown. She was tired of seeing women get hand-me-down designs from mens gear. So, in 2015, the ex-professional ski racer and longtime ski industry product executive started Blizzard-Tecnicas Women2Women (W2W) initiative — to amplify womens voices in skiing and design products specifically...
This Waxed Canvas Duffel Bag Might Outlast You: Pendleton Odyssey Review
I’ve tested dozens of duffel bags over the years. I’ve learned over that time that it’s hard to beat a classic. Most of the best duffel bags are made with slick, durable synthetic materials. They are loaded with compartments and stuffed with innovative features. But there’s just something special about the Pendleton Odyssey Waxed Canvas Duffel Bag ($269). It could...
Athletic Comfort in a Waterproof Rubber Boot: SITKA’s Back40 Boot Review
SITKA has made a name for itself by pushing the limits of comfort and performance with gear that actually performs in the field. The brand’s jackets, pants, and base layers are high-tech and modern, but not fussy. It’s just the kind of gear hunters can rely on day in and day out in pretty much every condition Nature throws our...
The Best Independent Gear Shops in the USA
Theres nothing like a good, old-fashioned gear shop, with a carefully curated selection of products and experienced, expert employees. These stores are home to a host of services, from used gear to rentals, and local employees with strong knowledge of the area can help customers in a way that big, online retailers often cant. Even as e-commerce continues to dominate,...
More Power, Fewer Cylinders, More Screen, Fewer Buttons: 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee
The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee is getting a new engine. No, its not the return of the Hemi V8 like in Rams pickups, but the new engine will give the SUV more horsepower. The new four-cylinder is part of a mild refresh for 2026 that includes new styling and an upgraded interior. Jeep is also giving lower-spec model buyers the...

In ‘The Greatest Ski Tour of All Time,’ Reclusive Norwegian Attempts 124-Mile, 27-Peak Linkup
When Nikolai Schirmer learned that his reclusive friend was attempting a massively ambitious ski tour through the Norwegian mountains, he decided to make a movie about it. After all, even for an extremely capable ski mountaineer like Rye Vegard, linking 27 peaks over 124 miles with over 82,000 vertical feet of elevation gain would be a challenge. The endeavor was...
