Hitch Hiker Leash
$64.95
Description

The Ruffwear Hitch Hiker is a climbing-inspired adjustable-length leash and hitching system for ultimate connection versatility with your dog on the fly – from the crag to coffee shops and all the paths in between.

The adjustable strap shines equally whether being used as the handle for a hand-held leash, waist belt for a hands-free leash, or wrap for a hitch secured around a single tree or post. And, with 12 feet of rope to work with, you can fluidly shift from long line to short lead and all points in between with the ergonomic HitchLock™ rope adjuster. It's designed for hands-on adjustment that acts as a braking system when the rope is under tension. A durable stow bag keeps rope tails contained, marking its unrivaled portability and utility as a hitch and leash combo.

The Start of A Beautiful Belay-tionship: Much like the climbing gear that inspired the hardware and the mark of a trusted climbing belay partner, human participation is required. While the Hitch Hiker uses an auto-blocking technique to lock the rope under tension, slack must be let out and taken in by hand.

Why Climbers on Aconcagua Get Serious Altitude Illness
Back in 2021, I wrote about the case of Daniel Granberg, a 24-year-old from Colorado who died at the summit of a Bolivian mountain called Illimani of what turned out to be high-altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE). What was notable about the incident was that Illimani is only 21,122 feet above sea level, well below the notorious Death Zone, which starts...

Throwing Caution to the Wind: Watch the Radical Evolution of Arc’teryx Athlete Weazy Murray
Skiing is just one element of Craig Weazy Murrays deep connection to the mountains. He grew up with outdoorsy parents who didnt even own a TV. He was constantly competing with his siblings, who all loved the same sports and who all pushed each other to new heights. Weazy carried that lifestyle and mindset into his adulthood. And now, hes...
Short-Distance Racing Weapon: The North Face Summit Sky 2 First Look Review
The super shoe revolution in trail running is a few seasons old at this point. Where all roads lead to Nike’s Alphafly with a handful of worthy number twos, there’s still no one defining super shoe for the trails — the type where if you line up in anything less, you’re sacrificing first place. Because of its unfortunate pandemic timing,...
Kia Takes Swing at Elon as Tesla Owners Express Frustration With Musk
From hero to zero? Elon Musk has long had a loyal following, but where the billionaire was once hailed for his David versus Goliath assault on the established automotive order, many now fault the South African entrepreneur for his political turn to the far right — and, in particular, his controversial role as head of the Trump administration’s Department of...
The Benefits of Being Close to Water, According to Science
I don’t know who’s more perplexed: me or the deer? It’s dawn on the Fourth of July and I’m lugging my 14-foot inflatable SUP and three dry bags across River Street in Troy, New York, burping bacon from the breakfast buffet. Downtown is drizzly and deserted, just me and the ungulate locking eyes across a hotel parking lot, two fish...
The 50 Best Adventures in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada
Behold! Classic trips have been reconsidered—you’ve gawked at the Grand Canyon, but have you run it from rim to rim?—while new destinations have caught our eye. This year we’re joining the revelers at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheater, trekking up Mexico’s tallest volcano, paddling through the world’s brightest bioluminescence off Puerto Rico, hiking Canada’s wildest coastal way, and much more. What...
The Best Assisted Braking Device for Lead Belaying: Petzl NEOX Long-Term Review
Every assisted braking device (ABD) can inadvertently lock the rope to varying degrees when quickly feeding out slack to a lead climber.Petzl has mostly solved this dilemma with the NEOX. When an ABD locks a rope when the belayer feeds slack rapidly (short roping), its actually doing what it was meant to do. Most ABDs have some sort of prescribed...
Sexy, Speedy Slicer: CRKT Twist Tighe OTF Review
I know I could have planned things better. Im holding the working end of a line of twine that will become a delightfully hipster sunglasses hanger in my apartment. But in true Adam fashion, I embarked on the project before really thinking through the process. One end of the twine is secured to a Command Hook while I pinch the...
Netflix’s Apple Cider Vinegar Shows Just How Scary Health Misinformation Can Get
As a health writer, I’ve watched wellness trends come and go, each one claiming to be as life-changing as the last. “I read that [insert detox drink or mushroom coffee here] is really good for you,” people have said to me with promising smiles, time and time again. But they didn’t actually read the information anywhere. Most likely, they watched a...
