Best in Show: ICAST 2025
ICAST can be a bit of a sensory overload. Rows upon rows of new fishing gear, packed booths, and a pace that doesn’t leave much room to breathe. It’s exciting, exhausting, and nearly impossible to take it all in. You could spend weeks digging into everything that’s unveiled there, but no one has that kind of time — especially not...
New Trump Trade Deal Will Add Thousands to the Cost of Japanese Auto Imports
American car buyers have already begun watching prices surge in the wake of the 25% auto import tariffs enacted by Pres. Donald Trump in May. As part of a new trade deal with Japan, those tariffs now will be cut to 15%. But, that still means the price of products like the Toyota 4Runner, Nissan Murano, and Mazda CX-90 could...
Lowered Truck With Lifted Price: 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo Review
The modern pickup truck market no longer caters strictly to prototypical jobsite and rural buyers. Instead, pickups increasingly serve as luxury commuters for urban customers, too. But that trend naturally leads to trucks growing more and more expensive — not to mention larger and larger, physically. Until, that is, Ford entirely flipped the script by reviving the former pony car...
Hiking Shoes Made With Kevlar, 1960s-Style eMoto, Ultralight Stoves, and More Emerging Gear
Redesigned and revamped versions of existing gear might not be the flashiest drops, but when the improvements are as good as these — were here for it. Several established brands, including Ibex and Fox Racing, have released retooled models of some of their longest-standing products, making them lighter and more comfortable. Nothings newest version of its CMF Pro Watch offers...
Mountain Lion Mauls 4-Year-Old in Olympic National Park, Rangers Seek Witnesses
A mountain lion bit a 4-year-old child in Olympic National Park on July 20, 2025, resulting in a Flight for Life to Seattle. The incident, which occurred in the north section of the park near the Victoria Overlook area on Hurricane Ridge, is now under investigation. Park rangers are asking for any witnesses to contact them with information. Rangers were...
Stay Cozy on a Budget: REI Co-op Trailmade Jacket Review
When I woke up, I could see my breath. Rain was falling lightly on my tent. I didnt want to get out of my sleeping bag, but the thought of a warm cup of coffee was motivation enough. I wiggled out of the down bag, shivered, and immediately reached for my REI Co-op Trailmade jacket. Slipping into that soft, cozy...
Küat DEK Platform Rack Offers Sleek Style and Bright Ideas
Its a new rooftop platform rack system from Küat. The Küat DEK is more than just another platform rack, though. Its sleek custom extrusion T-channel design helps it stand out. The optional integrated LED lighting, though, will really grab your attention. Küat DEK Looks Tough Sleek (Photo/Küat) We first saw the Küat DEK at the SEMA show last year,...
2025 Audi S3 Review: Subcompact, But Not Substandard
Spend enough time in crossovers and SUVs, and its easy to forget just how lovely it can be to drive a car. It doesnt matter how good the SUV is, and Im not talking supercar or even a big-dollar and bigger horsepower sports sedan; Im talking about sedans with a hint of enthusiast intention. Cars like this 2025 Audi S3...
My Favorite YETI Product, Nearly 10 Years Strong: Rambler One-Gallon Jug Review
Perhaps no brand has been iterated, copied, challenged, or outright ripped off more than YETI. From its coolers to its drinkware, the Austin purveyor of overbuilt and (according to some) overpriced outdoor hard goods quite literally broke the design mold. But despite the endless sea of burly tumblers and heavy rotomolded beer haulers, YETI’s singularly unrivaled —and in my opinion,...

Frankenstein Shoe Combines Runner, Hiker, Climber: Salewa Wildfire NXT Review
I reached a foot out over the airy gap below me to the rock face a few feet away, dangling from an iron rung. My shoe stuck to the opposite wall as I applied pressure. I swung my body across the abyss to the other side, my other foot joining on the slabby rock as my hands transitioned across the...
Out of Sight, Out of Mind: Kifaru’s Mesa Harness Is Forgettable in the Best Way
Sometimes the best upgrades aren’t the flashiest (or most expensive). Take Kifaru’s Mesa Harness, for instance. It provides a balanced and structured fit for Kifaru’s Deluxe Bino Harness or the Steelhead Pack. This might not seem like a huge upgrade on paper. After all, it’s a harness. But, if you’ve spent any substantial time in the field with a chest...
