Kevin Costner Wants Americans to Care About the National Parks
Earlier this year, a PR rep from Fox News asked if Id want to review the conservative networks upcoming docuseries on the history of Yosemite National Park. Called Yellowstone to Yosemite with Kevin Costner, the three-part series is the brainchild of the Academy Award-winning actor, and the follow up to his 2022 series Yellowstone: One Fifty. As I stared at...
Can You Build a Better Rubber Boot?
Mud season. Dealing with spring snowmelt, rain, mud, and muck is what brings the American Northeast, Southeast, and Northwest—and most places in between—together. If you live outside of an urban center and spend your time outdoors, odds are you own a pair of boots for mud season. Rubber boots are ubiquitous where I live in Bozeman, Montana. Knee-high rubber boots...

‘They Were Saving My Life’: Pro Skiers Trade Stories About Ski Patrollers
Ski patrollers represent the first line of defense for skiers and snowboarders in trouble— but theyre often undervalued. The last few years have seen repeated labor disputes between ski patrollers and the corporate-owned resorts that employ them. Worker strikes against Vail Resorts caused so much disruption this winter season that even a Utah major asked for a speedy resolution. A...
Iconic Altra Trail Shoe Ditches Laces: Timp Goes BOA
One of Altras most popular trail runners just got a little more dialed in. The brands Timp series has been battling toe-to-toe against competitors like HOKA for the last several years, adding various improvements to keep the attention of consumers in an increasingly crowded marketplace. We liked Altras slight change of direction with the Timp 5, which dropped weight and...

Each week, we try to fill Emerging Gear with the coolest new stuff we can find. Thats more than evident this week. On the techy side of things, weve some fantastically smart...
I Tried 5 Creatine Recipes. Here Are the Few I’d Recommend.
If you search for creatine recipes on social media, you’ll find many creators adding it to everything from smoothies to oatmeal bowls. Even though experts and influencers tout its benefits in their videos, I avoided using it because Ive always been a bit skeptical of supplements. Before adding it to my diet, I had tons of questions that needed answers....

Comfort, Easy Cleaning, Groovy Colors: Lululemon’s The Mat Is a Yoga Standout
Ive used more than a hundred different types of yoga mats over the course of the last 20 years and have yet to find a perfect mat. For me, an ideal mat combines grip and durability. I prefer a design with an easy-to-clean texture and material. I also appreciate comfortable cushioning and an attractive aesthetic. The Mat from Lululemon comes...
