Vintage Ripper: Mongoose Releases BMX Classics for 50th Anniversary
Theres really only one way for Mongoose to celebrate 50 years of biking history: Rerelease the iconic BMX models that made the brand a household name. Of course, trading on nostalgia has become Mongooses raison dêtre in recent years. The Supergoose has made many comebacks since its original heyday in the 1980s, as has the Motomag, a.k.a. the most iconic...
Classic Camp Coffee Device Gets Premium Upgrade: AeroPress Premium Review
My old AeroPress has been on more adventures with me than I can count or remember. My parents gave it to me as a gift in college, and Ive used it so much that the gold lettering on the outside has started wearing off. Its made hundreds of cups of coffee for me and my friends at campsites all over...

Paraclimber Mo Beck on Creating the Future She Always Wanted: ‘We’re Living That Future Now’
American rock climbing has long attracted people with larger-than-life personalities — but theres nobody quite like Maureen Mo Beck. Born without a left hand, Beck began climbing in college over 10 years ago, when the idea of paraclimbing was still in its infancy. As more disabled people decided to try climbing, Beck became one of the sports most talented athletes....
‘Difficult to Witness’: On-Camera Grizzly Death Postpones Fat Bear Week Frivolity
The annual ranking of fat bears at Katmai National Park has become a popular pastime among animal lovers. Fat Bear Week, as its known, allows viewers around the world to vote for their favorite grizzlies as they stuff themselves with salmon on the Brooks River. Adventure-Worthy Gravel Bike, Incredible Value: REI Co-op Cycles ADV 2.2 Review
Its so nice that I had to do it twice. Last year, I forced the 2023 REI ADV 2.2 to drag my 200-pound rear from the chunky access roads of the mountains north of Flagstaff to the prickly pear spine-laden dirt roads of Sedona Red Rock country. From bombing down highway switchbacks to lugging 60 pounds of gear up steep...
Lightweight Backcountry-First Shell: Black Diamond Recon LT Jacket Review
You don’t usually want a thick, heavy ski shell in the backcountry. Heavy-duty three-layer shells are great on the resort. But they’re often too hot going uphill, and they take up too much pack space when you need to shed them. In a progressive package, the Black Diamond Recon Stretch LT Ski Shell delivers weather protection and breathability in a...
Cheekbone Protection, Crisp Optics: POC Nexal Clarity Ski Goggles Review
I stood at the top of a classic Gore Range backcountry ski line, and the sun disappeared behind a thick cloud while the wind picked up. The icy descent had thin coverage and wind slabs to navigate in a no-fall zone. Being able to discern the snow’s texture, especially the ice and wind slab, was essential for safety. My sunglasses...
