The ultimate travel duffel for quick adventures; bomber and full featured

The Black Diamond StoneHauler 45L Pro is the ultimate travel duffel for quick adventures while doubling as a larger commuter pack thanks to its full feature set. Included with the 45L Pro is a fully padded exterior accessed laptop sleeve as well as BD's integrated DirtBag™ storage system, giving you the ability to hit the gym and then stow your chalky clothes in a secure internal pocket that cinches shut with an alpine skirt closure. This duffel also protects your essential gear with a side-to-side padded body construction that's unique to the StoneHauler duffels and consists of 5mm closed cell polyester foam for puncture and fabric abrasion resistance while carrying gear such as quickdraws, trekking poles, or a rack of cams.

The 45L Pro also carries like your favorite backpack, with two removable fully-featured EVA foam shoulder straps and adjustable sternum strap. Two interior zipper pockets and one exterior zipper pocket allows you to keep valuables organized, and the mono-mesh ID pocket gives it your stamp. Wrapping the entire exterior of each duffel is the HaulLoop™ carry system—a continuous, bomber tubular webbing loop tested to 2kN by the same machines that load test BD's carabiners and Camalots. This provides a secure “clip in” and carry solution to keep you confident that your gear is secure. The 45L Pro is also built with 100% post-consumer recycled material.

Whoops! Tires Are Too Big: Ford Issues Recall on 2,000 Transit Trail Vans
Hundreds of Ford Trail Transit owners may need to get their vehicles fixed, according to a recall issued last week. Nearly 2,000 of the Ford vans are subject to the recall, which the company announced on March 22 after several owners reported a weird noise. The problem, it turns out, was about tires rubbing against the wheel wells. Ford Transit...
Bridging Two Worlds: The Unlikely Connection Between Horses and Climbing
These days articles are often oriented around click bait, with publishers and media outlets frequently focussing on 'top five' this and 'top ten' that. As a result of this we thought we'd buck the trend and do something completely different, by taking a theme that has absolute no relevance to anyone and rolling with it. Unfortunately one issue with this...
Don’t Project Your Mountain Town Envy Onto Your Kids
“The easiest way to turn your kids into geniuses by the time they’re seven is to front load huge amounts of experience, including dangerous experience.” This is the advice of the late John Taylor Gatto, the writer and educator who is perhaps best known for his passionate polemics against compulsory schooling. For Gatto, one of the ominous signs of  “well-schooled...

Inside the Battle Over School Fitness Testing
Last spring, among the usual elementary school reminders about theme weeks and illicit peanut butter snacks (WE ARE A NUT FREE CAMPUS!!) an email popped up that gave me pause. My kindergartner would be weighed in school, it said, and I could click on a link to opt her out. It gave me the ick. I’d paid attention to young women...
The Bentley of Sharp Objects: WE Knife Co. OAO Review
Every once in a while, a knife comes out that makes you think. Last year, it was the Benchmade Narrows — a knife made from premium materials with an excellent design, but priced at $600. At that price, it felt less like a pocket tool to hit the trail with, and more like a precious investment to be coddled. That said,...

Nevada Offers Travelers $5,000 to Hike the Pacific Crest Trail
When Jeff Potter arrived in Carson City, Nevada near the end of the ’90s, he noted an absence: His new home was ringed by low-slung mountains at the eastern edge of the towering Sierra Nevada and its sweeping Lake Tahoe, but there was no real way to get to them without a car. A California native drawn toward Tahoe for...
Aggressive Looks, Quiet Ride: Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T Tires Review
I’ve been building vehicles capable of off-road use and abuse since I was in high school. Out of all of the components that I have toiled over in deciding what’s best for that vehicle, tires are easily the ones I do the most research on. After all, there are factors like fitment, handling in rain and snow, ride comfort, and...
Is the Rise in California Ski Accidents Linked to Weed Gummies and GoPros?
According to a report by the Los Angeles Times and subsequent news sources, California ski accidents are up nearly 50 percent over the last two years, statistics that news reports have attributed to a rise in GoPro use, selfie stops, and “THC-laced gummies.” That’s quite the cocktail, and one interviewee mentioned that chairlifts often “smell like skunks when they should...
