Cotopaxi launched its Allpa Collection of travel packs in 2019. The early bags were a hit and the line has slowly added packs and duffels since then. These latest additions broaden the range of sizes on both ends of the spectrum, including the lines largest offering yet, along with the first daypack.
Lets take a closer look at the new two-in-one 50L Adventure Pack and the 26L Daypack with daily-wear potential.
The Cotopaxi Allpa 50L Travel Pack and Allpa 26L Daypack. A 50L Carry-On? The Cotopaxi Allpa 50L Adventure Travel Pack is a large-capacity bag that breaks off into two when needed — which is how it can be carry-on compatible for most airlines.
The 50L pack has a contoured back panel, 4 inches of torso adjustability, and padded, tuckable hip and harness straps. Those backpacking features will help on long hauls because, lets face it, 50L full of clothing, gear, and a laptop is still some weight.
The Cotopaxi Allpa 50L zips open wide and has a built-in dedicated shoe/laundry bag; (photo/Cotopaxi) The main bag has a 40L main compartment that unzips flat for front loading. Within the main compartment is a bag to separate shoes or dirty laundry, and the lid has zippered pockets for organization. Theres also a laptop sleeve, front accessory pocket, and exterior water bottle pocket.
Weve praised many of those same features in GearJunkie reviews of the Allpa collections smaller bags. The bags also use 100% recycled materials: a nylon shell and ripstop polyester interior. Thats not surprising for a Cotopaxi bag, but worth noting.
The lid of the 50L is removable for use as a day pack. In this case, its a removable 8L sling bag with slots for keeping a passport, smartphone, and other essentials within reach.
The lid of the Allpa 50L pack can be worn as a sling to keep essentials with you while traveling; (photo/Cotopaxi) Building on a Foundation Weve praised the compact carry-on size of the Cotopaxi Allpa 35L Travel Pack for years. It remains one of the brands bestsellers, as its large enough for weeklong trips. We also reviewed the Allpa 42L Travel Pack, the next size up for longer trips.
Anything bigger would push the limits of carry-on sizing. And at that size, you can opt for an Allpa Getaway Duffel with stowable backpack straps. But the duffels lack the same subtle travel features of the travel packs.
So, the Allpa 50L presents a solution by breaking off the sling for a personal item and declaring the main pack as a carry-on. The breakaway sling is a clever riff on two-fer backpack designs.
Travel-Friendly Commuter Pack The Allpa 26L Daypack brings travel-inspired design to its daypack offerings. Its a streamlined approach to an urban daypack or commuter backpack, with a panel-loader style and rugged fabrics.
The pack has dedicated side-zippered pockets for a laptop, smaller electronics (with a fleece lining), and two exterior accessory pockets. It also has stretchy side pockets for water bottles and an internal organization area with exterior daisy chain loops. Since the pack is part of the Allpa line, it has a luggage pass-through strap for use as a daily pack on trips.
