Alpine AscentShell Bivy
$224.21
Description

Alpine protection and all-night comfort without the weight. Lightweight durability of Pertex® and breathable waterproof AscentShell™ makes for a faster and lighter solo shelter that you’ll bring everywhere.

Solo adventuring just got a whole lot more comfortable and convenient. Building on the reputation set by the cult-classic Alpine Bivy, this new version leverages AscentShell™ x Pertex® technology for a drastically improved breathability rating which leads to less condensation and a more comfortable sleep. Its step-in opening allows you step directly out of your boots and into your bed easier and without the fuss of shimmying. Extra large head space makes room for gear, and a no-see-um mesh comes in handy when the bugs are out for blood. This bivy is ideal for alpine pursuits, extreme weather, or any time you want to skip the weight and bulk of a tent.

The tapered shape of the Alpine AscentShell Bivy works best with tapered-shape sleeping pads with narrower dimensions at the foot, ideally 22 inches or narrower.

Footprint sold separately.

Snappy, Agile, and Highly Versatile: Salomon Pulsar Women’s Trail Running Shoe Review
Trail runners have more choices than ever, but many shoes these days lean heavily toward oversized midsoles and premium price tags. Launched on September 1, 2025, the Salomon Pulsar women’s trail running shoe takes a different approach: lightweight, speedy, and versatile enough to handle everything from pavement connectors to rocky singletrack. I tested the Pulsar over 25-30 miles on my...
Reversible Hoody Can Be More Breathable or Warmer: Mountain Hardwear AirMesh Review
A thick layer of clouds descended as a friend and I scrambled to pitch the kitchen tarp deep in the backcountry. I quickly donned my fuzzy new midlayer — Mountain Hardwear’s AirMesh Hoody — before the hail started coming down. It gave me just enough warmth to fire up a round of backcountry bruschetta in the frigid late summer downpour....

World Class Academy Prepares Students for Life Beyond the Classroom
What if high school included kayaking classic whitewater in Patagonia, climbing tufas in Greece, riding A-Line in Whistler, or kiting perfect wind in Brazil—while earning a diploma and applying to college? At World Class Academy (WCA), that’s just a typical semester. For 25 years, WCA has combined rigorous academics with elite-level adventure sports, creating a totally unique high school experience....

From Car to Crossover, and That’s a Good Thing: 2026 Nissan Leaf Review
America’s first mass-market all-electric vehicle has largely faded from view in recent years. Its design and technology are clearly dated compared to the flood of competitors that have rolled into showrooms since the Nissan Leaf first debuted, during the 2011 model year. The third-generation Nissan EV addresses many of the problems that would have otherwise marked Leaf for obscurity: limited...
‘Ultra-Puffy’ Cotopaxi: Fuego Max Answers Call for a Warmer Winter Jacket With Style
How do you improve on a wildly popular winter jacket? Make it warmer, puffier, and buttery soft to the touch —at least, thats the formula Cotopaxi is banking on. And those are just the parts you can see and touch; the Utah purveyor of retro-fun performance outdoor gear also reinvented its winter Fuego collection for the upcoming season with 100%...
Backcountry Powerhouse With Warmth, Moisture Management, Durability: Vans Viaje Range Snowboard Boots Review
When I need a snowboard boot that can keep up with freezing, long days in the backcountry, the updated Vans Viaje Range snowboard boot is my go-to. It also helps that I can pretty seamlessly ride my snowmobile without needing to swap boots. I have the original version of this boot that launched in 2020, and I still love the...
Float Meets Fun: Black Diamond Impulse Ti 104 W Skis Review
During Presidents Day weekend in 2025, 2 feet of snow buried Jay Peak Resort in Northern Vermont. Skiers were floating turns over their heads, and it mustve been nothing short of blower. But I wouldnt know because I didnt arrive until Tuesday after that storm. By then, I wasnt sure what to expect. I boarded the tram with the Black...
