Description

Western's warmest bag at -40° F; windproof and highly water-resistant

Denali, Aconcagua, the Himalaya... mountaineering in the extreme. These are places where the margin for error is zero, and so the Western Mountaineering Bison GWS sleeping bag is most often chosen to serve. A full Gore® Windstopper™ shell makes this bag windproof and virtually waterproof while remaining lightweight and surprisingly compressible. Stuffed with over 40 ounces of 850+ fill down, the Bison GWS has 10 massive inches of heat-trapping loft. Huge V-Block Side Baffles and horizontal baffles across your chest keep the down fill in place, and double Interlocking Draft Tubes and a down-filled Gore® Windstopper™ collar seal in heat while howling winds surround your tent. The huge hood is not only well-filled but is completely made with Gore® Windstopper™ and has a large ruff to seal your face from the elements. The Bison is the crowning glory of Western Mountaineering and demonstrates their commitment to innovation and quality. This life-saving bundle weighs in under 5 lbs and is the warmest bag you'll find anywhere.

Like all of Western Mountaineering's bags, the Bison GWS down sleeping bag is made by hand in San Jose, California. Their down is sourced from free-range mother geese who are never live-plucked or force-fed.

That means you need a trustworthy camera bag that carries exceptionally well, is easy to access, protects your gear from drops, falls, and the elements, and is...

Painting Living Colors with Bryn Merrell
Yellowstone National Park’s paint palette is a vibrant collection of hues: deep purple and fiery red wildflowers, warm gold grasses, cool green sagebrush, and polychromatic geysers. It has inspired artists like Tahoe City–based painter Bryn Merrell and many others throughout history, including Yellowstone Bourbon, to pay homage to the park’s natural wonders. ...

Minnesota is not always top of mind when it comes to outdoor adventure, but it should be. Just ask lifelong “Land of 10,000 Lakes” local Dave Simonett, lead singer of Trampled By Turtles. Dave grew up in Mankato and spent his youth exploring its rolling woods. And when he formed Trampled in Duluth in 2003, something surprising happened. His love...

Last Mother’s Day, as the mom of a one-year-old, I wanted anything that would make getting outside with a baby in tow easier. Watch: Our Favorite Rig From Overland Expo West 2025
Overland Expo West is always full of amazing adventure rigs, and this year the buzz was around electric vehicles. This was the first time we saw not just one, but two fully-electric trailers. It was exciting to see brands take the technology that’s been proven in electric cars and find clever ways to bring it into overlanding, and the RD...
Are Rain Skirts Officially High Fashion? These Top Designers Seem to Think So.
With the exception of Scotsmen in kilts, skirts tend to stoke controversy in the outdoors. The first women mountaineers—like Henriette d’Angeville, who, in 1838, became the second woman to ever successfully climb Mount Blanc—didn’t have much of a choice but to hike in a skirt or dress, given the gendered fashion norms of the nineteenth century. But in the 1900s,...
