How to Walk Across the Sky with Faith Dickey
The first I see of Faith Dickey is a headlamp beam floating in the driveway, her dark form loading two metal construction tripods from a storage shed into her pickup truck. It’s 4:30 A.M., and I’m about to hitch a ride to Day Canyon, an hour outside of Moab, Utah, to help her finish rigging and watch her lead a...
The Best OBD2 Scanner of 2024
Does your car speak a different language? Ours does, too. Thats why we always keep an OBD2 scanner in the glovebox to help us bridge the gap if the engine starts to sputter, new noises pop up, or the check engine light pops on. Communicating with your vehicles computer is the job of an OBD2 scanner, also known as a...
The Best Bike Multi-Tools of 2024
It’s hard to imagine a cycling accessory that is more essential, affordable, or portable than the bike multi-tool. Mechanical issues can and do happen, and being prepared can mean the difference between a quick, easy adjustment in the middle of a ride or ending up stranded in the middle of nowhere. Whether you ride road, gravel, mountain bikes, or all...
Sherpa Sets New Mount Everest Summits Record
For thousands of people worldwide, summiting Mount Everest is a once-in-a-lifetime achievement. Kami Rita Sherpa, however, likely has a different perspective. This morning, the 54-year-old Sherpa mountain guide reached the highest point in the world for the 30th time, beating his own Everest record and setting a new benchmark in the history of alpinism. The Best Windshield Wipers of 2024
We’ve always been steadfast about three things when it comes to auto maintenance: Learn how to change a flat tire before the real thing, keep your fluids topped off, and you ought to be changing your windshield wipers regularly. Thankfully, our gearheads have cycled through just about every wiper on the market, so your next change will last longer than...
In Jordan, Connect to the Past and the Very Wild Present
The last ray of sun disappears behind the reddish mountains, and I trade the pavement for the sand, a common exchange on a Jordan adventure. After hours spent roaming along the King’s Highway—a vital biblical trade route connecting Egypt to Mesopotamia on Jordan’s western shore—I have reached an extraterrestrial terrain: Wadi Rum, also known as the Valley of the Moon....
The Best Dog Collars of 2024
A good dog collar is the most essential gear for your four-legged BFF. It allows you to control and restrain, command and correct, and keep your pup safe and sound, near at hand. It can also mean the difference between a cozy evening at home with your pup and a stressful night spent searching for a dog that has gone...
Ford’s ‘Ultimate’ Off-Road Pickup: 2024 F-150 Raptor R Review
If you’re looking for a full-sized pickup, Ford has a model for virtually every taste and budget, especially for those looking to head off-road. Flashlight to Lantern, Olight Prowess Is a Versatile Lighting Solution
It was about 7:30 p.m. when the transformer explosion boomed a block away from my house, and the power went out. I checked the Xcel outage report and verified my expectations. It would be a whole night without electricity, probably more. I quickly shuffled into action, checking my backup power sources to plug in my freezer and refrigerator. But before...
Two Climbers are Missing After a Disaster Near Mount Everest’s Summit
Two climbers are presumed dead and several others are lucky to be alive following a terrifying disaster near the summit of Mount Everest. The accident happened on Tuesday, May 21 at 7 A.M. near the section of the route formerly called the Hillary Step, a steep, razor-thin ridge of rock and ice located at 28,839 feet, just a few hundred...
To Stuff or Not to Stuff? How to Store Your Sleeping Bag the Right Way
Some gear is simple to maintain —pack it up, put in a cool, dry place, set it and forget it, and itll be ready when you need it. But some gear —in fact, most gear —requires at least a modicum of TLC. Tents should be shaken out and dried before being rolled up (with all the poles and stakes) and...
