Description

Granite Gear takes its commitment to making the outdoors a space for every body a step further by reframing the conversation around ultralight backpacking with the Virga3 series. It continues to be of utmost importance to Granite Gear to expand the range of people and bodies that their packs can comfortably and responsibly fit.

With a fully adjustable torso height and width and the lightest Re-Fit hip belt to-date, Granite Gear invites all to join the ultralight experience with the Virga3 55.

The Virga3 55 weighs in at just 1.62 lbs out of the box (stripped weight: 1.18 lb), made with Robic® High-tenacity nylon (100D and 210D) with Barrier DWR. Part of the way Granite Gear achieves the phenomenally light weights of the Virga3 series is by not utilizing a frame sheet, stays, or foams in the back panel. The load itself functions as the pack’s suspension. The nylon shell gains support and rigidity from your sleeping pad— fold up and slide your pad into dedicated panels on the interior or simply drop in a rolled pad and let it uncoil to push against the back panel, and pack gear inside the roll.

New for the Virga3 is Granite Gear’s lightest, fully adjustable padded Re-Fit waist belt on the Virga3 55. The shoulder harness system now takes a nod from the trail running and fastpacking world with two sternum straps for an even hug (fully removable). Other key features are: large dual hip belt pockets with DWR-treated zippers, roll-top main compartment opening with top compression for easy access, and a pair of elastic bottle holders on both shoulder straps.

Nite Ize Squeeze Rotating Smartphone Bike Bar Mount Review: Squeeze System Holds On Tight
For so many years, Id just try to remember the next three or four turns on biking trips through the city and hope I didnt miss a side street before I could pull over somewhere, fish my phone out of my pocket, and read the next three or four turns off the navigation app on my phone. Id start and...

Less Money, Fewer Grams, Comfortable for 2 Adults: MEC Spark UL Tent Review
We rolled into camp dusty, sweaty, and depleted as the sun sank. The end of a brutal day of bikepacking in the scorching heat of summer. I dragged MEC’s new Spark UL 2 tent out of my handlebar bag and shook it open. Within seconds, I had it staked out and pitched to perfection. It’s rare that I can pitch...

Hunting Smarter, Not Harder, Like His Grandfather Taught Him
The first fall Jack went hunting, he was 12 years old, and ever since then, his hunting has echoed the lessons of his late grandfather. As someone balancing the grind of a 9 to 5, Jack has to work smarter to stay on top of the hunt. That means during preseason, he’s scoping out a new property and setting up...

Superior Shape for an Outdoor Folder: Vosteed Shilin Review
Unlike knife blade steel, there’s rarely a new knife blade shape. But there are little-known shapes that never really caught on. One of those is the Shilin blade shape. For the life of me, the only reason I can see it not being more popular is that it originated from a small village in Taiwan more than 150 years ago....
Michelino Sunseri Found Guilty of Cutting a Switchback in Grand Teton National Park
Trail runner Michelino Sunseri, who skipped a switchback during his 2024 fastest known time attempt in Grand Teton National Park, was found guilty of leaving the designated trail, a federal judge ruled. Court documents obtained by Outside note that while jail time will “not be imposed,” the endurance athlete could face a potential ban from the park and a fine...
Underestimated Float and Carving Power: Atomic Maverick 96 CTI Review
Ski brands have a bad habit of claiming one product can do everything. All-mountain skis are the worst offenders. Claims get made about a ski being “perfect” for powder, park, racing, backcountry touring, and freeride. And the new 2025-2026 Atomic Maverick 96 CTI has been entered as the brands latest “quiver of one.” It’s just not true. Powder skis dominate...
