Leave the Backpack Behind: Osprey Tempest & Talon 6 Waistpack Review
There are days when a backpack feels like too much, but pockets alone won’t cut it. That’s where Osprey’s Tempest 6 (women’s) and Talon 6 (men’s) hip packs come in. Built for fast, light missions on the trail, these high-capacity fanny packs suit hikers, runners, and mountain bikers who value comfort, balance, and hydration on the move. During months of...
Concealed-Carry Benchmade: Old-School ‘Successor’ Folder Adds New Twist
It took a meeting with HR to figure it out. But Im now carrying Benchmades newest old-school knife, the Successor, in a unique fashion. It took a pair of slightly tight pants to finally push me over the top. After a few weeks of carrying the very pretty Benchmade Successor inside a handsome sheath in my front pocket, I just...
Feathered Friends Swallow UL 20 Sleeping Bag Review: Arctic-Proven, Premium Sleeping Bag Choice
All of the trip reports I was reading told me I was foolish for bringing a down sleeping bag to Gates of the Arctic National Park. The entire park is a bog — good luck. Not to mention our intention to paddle down two rivers during the trip, packing away all of our insulation inside our boats for the ride....
Salmon Reclaim the Klamath: First Chinook Seen Above Dams in 100 Years
This week, river watchers and tribal elders are quietly celebrating what was once thought improbable: Chinook salmon are making their way upstream in the Klamath River Basin for the first time in over a century. After four dams were removed, the fish have reached tributaries in the upper Klamath Basin, marking a major ecological milestone. The Return of Salmon In...
Jaw-Dropping Ski Descent Headlines Banff’s 50th Mountain Film and Book Festival
At 50 years strong, the Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival is celebrating its golden anniversary with a headliner who embodies everything the festival stands for: boldness, creativity, and a relentless drive toward the unknown. Christina “Lusti” Lustenberger — former Olympian turned pioneering ski mountaineer — takes center stage this year fresh off a streak of history-making first descents all...
A Premium Cycling Helmet With Unmatched Airflow: Giro Aries Spherical Road Bike Helmet Review
Ill be honest: I didnt expect a road bike helmet to change much about how I feel when I ride. Ive worn a number of helmets over the years, and they all do their job: keep my head intact. So when I clipped into the Giro Aries Spherical for the first time, I assumed it would check the same box....
Jim Morrison Becomes First to Ski Everest’s Deadly North Face: Watch His Run
Everest has been skied and snowboarded, but past attempts have always been on the southern slope. On Oct. 15, world-renowned skier Jim Morrison flipped the script, though. Instead of going the same route as everyone before him, Morrison decided to ski the infamously dangerous north face of the mountain. In the process, he bagged a first descent and entered the...

The Fleece That Never Flinches: Patagonia R1 Thermal Hoody Review
The wind cut across the valley, and snow hissed sideways as I clipped into my Nordic skis for one last lap. The temperature had dropped quickly, bringing a dry, biting cold that made breath freeze midair. When I stopped to refuel, the cold hit hard. That’s when the Patagonia R1 Thermal came out of the pack. Within seconds of pulling...
Stable Super-Trainer With Race-Day Speed: HOKA Rocket X 3 Review
With two kids under 3 and a full-time job, my training windows are short and precious. Most of my runs are 5 to 6 miles from the house, linking into a network of dirt and crushed-gravel roads that twist and roll through the foothills. Those runs tend to be fast — tempo and threshold efforts more often than not —...
RV Travel Packing Hacks to Keep You Ready for Anything
Having the freedom to choose where you go and how you camp when you get there is the best part of traveling in an RV. Regardless of the kind of RV you have, the best way to upgrade your trip is to hack your packing. Avoid the gear explosion and a chaotic camp kitchen by packing well before you hit...
No Frills, All Function: Marathon SSNAV-D Auto Arctic Edition Review
For someone who’s not a pilot, I spend a lot of time in airplanes. And it just so happened that, while awaiting takeoff in Chicago, my phone buzzed with a press release from Marathon Watches. The company’s popular Navigator line, the SSNAV Auto, had come to market with a new white-dialed, Arctic Edition. The photos showed what I’d come to...
