Canadian Roots, Maple Leaf Icon: Marathon Watch Releases Timepiece Honoring Flag

For 84 years, Marathon watches have traveled the globe on the wrists of U.S. military personnel. Specially made for American troops beginning in 1941, the brands watches remain the preferred supplier for the U.S. Armed Forces to this day.

And now, the Canadian brand shows off its pride.

Marathon Watch Company, founded in Montreal in 1939, is celebrating its national heritage with a special-edition timepiece that launches today. July 1, also known as Canada Day, is the countrys biggest celebration of independence. This year also marks the 60th anniversary of the Canadian flag, which the country officially adopted in 1965.

But the companys identity remains rooted in the partnership between Canada and the U.S., and this new watch is no exception. The ADANAC Stainless Steel Navigator Pilot’s Automaticis an addition to the brands Navigator collection, which was originally developed in a partnership with the Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

The new watchs aesthetics, however, are pure Canada. Limited to just 500 units, the timepiece is available online now for $1,280.

It also includes a bright white dial as well as a bold red bezel that reflects Canadas red-and-white flag. The watch also has a matching red-and-white NATO strap with sky-blue accents. (Marathon watches also became the preferred gear for countries within the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, or NATO.)

As another model within the existing Navigator lineup, the ADANAC Pilots Automatic has an asymmetrical case design, crafted in either 316L stainless steel or lightweight composite fibreshell for enhanced durability, the brand said.

It has plenty of other features expected from the Navigator lineup. That includes a sapphire crystal resistant to rapid changes in air pressure, a continuously glowing dial for low-light visibility, and a bidirectional bezel for tracking a second time zone.

This is the second limited-edition release of ADANAC watches. The first was released last year, but this years more colorful aesthetic is far more eye-catching.

As political tensions and trade disputes embroil borders, the watch may serve as a reminder of the positive partnerships that have long defined Americas relationship with its northern neighbor.
