Wildlife Immersion in Yellowstone National Park
Photographer and filmmaker Nate Dodge joins Yellowstone Bourbon master distiller Steve Beam for a ride of a lifetime: a helicopter tour of Yellowstone National Park. The two get a bird’s-eye view of America’s first national park, including sightings of its diverse wildlife. Gaining an even deeper appreciation for the remarkable landscape, Dodge and Beam get their boots dirty by lending...
I Took My Work Outside Every Day for a Month This Winter. Here’s What I Learned.
Its 15 degrees out at 7:56 A.M. and frost glints off the surfaces of my silver-plated backyard. I am sitting outside on my deck wearing two down jackets, down pants, down booties, and a thick hat as the winter sun wakes up in the eastern sky. Its an ordinary weekday, and my laptop sits in front of me as I...
Yellowstone’s Best Wildlife Hikes
Adventure photographer Nate Dodge stepped foot in Yellowstone for the first time last fall and was amazed by its sheer size. “I had no concept of the scale of the national park,” he says. “As we were driving to a trailhead, going over these mountain passes and vast landscapes, I kept asking, ‘Are you sure we’re still in the national...
AI Bird Feeder IDs, Takes Pics: FeatherSnap Scout Review
As a lifelong birder, I approached testing the FeatherSnap Scout Smart Bird Feeder with a fair amount of skepticism. I dont need help identifying the feathered visitors to my small yard. Yet, over months of use, I grew enthused that I could track and observe more aspects of bird behavior. The close-up photos of birds on the tray are good...
How Many Carbs Do You Really Need to Maximize Endurance?
When I started writing about sports science two decades ago, fueling advice for endurance athletes was simple. The goal was to take in roughly 60 grams of carbohydrate per hour, in order to preserve the limited supply of carbohydrate stored in your muscles and liver. More would theoretically be better, but studies had found that it simply wasn’t possible to...
The New Boss of Budget Flashlights: Acebeam TAC 2AA Review
Powerful, useful lighting need not be costly. The TAC 2AA, launched in late 2024 by Acebeam, is a perfect example. Strong, solid, versatile, and priced at just $30, its the new flashlight to beat in the budget realm. I have been testing the Aceabeam TAC 2AA for a couple of weeks and am incredibly impressed with its capabilities, especially for...

I Used an Infrared Sauna for 30 Days and My Problems (Sort Of) Melted Away
I got my first taste of sauna on a family vacation at the (mostly shabby) chic town of French Lick, Indiana, in the late ’80s, home to the once-glamorous West Baden Springs and the birthplace of legendary Celtics forward Larry Bird. The condo we rented for the weekend had an indoor cedar sauna, which no one in my family seemed...

Can’t Afford a New Adventuremobile? This Is the Ultimate Guide to Rig Maintenance.
New cars and trucks are more expensive than ever—the average price of a used car was just shy of $50,000 in January, according to Kelly Blue Book. Interest rates to finance a vehicle are ballooning as well. To this car enthusiast, out of control costs sounds like a good argument for hanging on to your current vehicle, and taking care...
Why Do So Many People Get Into Trouble While Hiking in Hawaii?
Hawaii is blessed with some of the most cinematic hiking trails on the planet. I live part-time on Maui and still find myself spellbound by vistas of plunging waterfalls cleaving to jungle blanketed mountainsides and rugged coastal cliffs spilling down to the sapphire sea. I also know how the technicolor scenery, combined with the heady, plumeria-scented air and the islands’...
