I Used Chat GPT to Meal Plan—Until a Nutritionist Set Me Straight
Up until now, I’ve resisted using ChatGPT, mainly because I’m terrified Ill love it too much and be even more addicted to my phone. Everyone around me swears by it, like my best friend who relies on it for healthy recipe ideas. She is among many using OpenAIs chatbot to plan weekly meals. You merely ask the bot to whip up a...
Ultramarathron Runner Latoya Shauntay Snell’s Endometriosis-Friendly Salmon and Kale Salad Recipe
In the middle of training for two marathons and an ultramarathon in 2017, medical professionals diagnosed culinary arts professional turned long-distance runner, and body politics advocate Latoya Snell, with stage four rectovaginal endometriosis. In this stage of the condition, the endometrial lining grows in places it shouldn’t, such as the ovaries, fallopian tubes, bowels, bladder, and in the rarest cases,...

Is Conservation Only for the One Percent?
Dear Sundog, I’m a biologist and land conservationist who has spent the last two decades working with farmers and ranchers to keep their land and way of life intact. I walk their property looking for habitats that might harbor rare plants and threatened wildlife. If the property meets certain ecological criteria, the owner can place the land under “conservation easement,”...
Op-Ed: Public Lands Are Under Attack. State Leaders Should Protect them.
From 2021 until 2024, while I was Secretary of the Interior, we worked to forge stability, create jobs in a clean energy economy, conserve more lands and waters for future generations, and secure clean air and water for communities in every corner of the country. We treated everyone with dignity and respect—values that New Mexicans live by. Today, the work...
When National Parks Laid Off Rangers, This Company Started Hiring
On February 14, 2025, the National Park Service fired around 1,000 probationary employees in conjunction with a White House effort to reduce the federal workforce. Although a spate of court orders eventually reversed many of the layoffs and reinstated probationary employees to their jobs, roughly five weeks elapsed between the initial firing and eventual rehiring mandate. Those intervening weeks were...

Is It Better to Eat Throughout the Day or Have a Few Big Meals?
Getting through a full workout is tough when you haven’t properly fueled up. If you find that you’re regularly struggling with energy levels, it’s fair to wonder if you’re eating at the right frequency for your needs. Some swear by eating small, frequent meals throughout the day, while others say it’s better to stick with three meals that are more...
Are Sweatpants the New Leggings? Two Editors Debate.
There are a nearly infinite number of battles on the Internet, but we at Outside get fired up over some more than others. The latest? The recent debate about whether sweatpants are poised to replace leggings, ye olde Millennial staple, as peak athleisure wear. It’s a tale as old as time. The up-and-coming generation on whom the nation seems to...
